When it all comes down to it, this could very well be the end of the Jokinen links for the Calgary Flames.

Let’s take a closer look at how it’s all panned out after just under a year.

March 4th 2009, the Flames acquire Olli Jokinen and a 3rd round pick in 2009. In return, the Phoenix Coyotes received Matthew Lombardi, Brandon Prust and a conditional first round pick in 2009 or 2010. The Flames opted for the 2010 pick, and kept their 2009 draft pick to select defenceman Tim Erixon. On June 27th 2009, the Flames then dealt Jim Vandermeer to the Coyotes to regain Brandon Prust on their roster.

Finally, on February 1st of 2010, the Flames have dealt Jokinen and Brandon Prust (he seems to find his way into every Flames trade recently) to the New York Rangers in exchange for Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins.

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the Los Angeles Kings.

Fortunately for the Leafs, they are back at home where they have a better record (9-10-5) than when playing as the visitors (8-16-5) this season. Unfortunately for the Leafs, the Kings have a better away record (15-10-1) than they do when playing as the host team (14-9-2)… also Kopitar.

Those were the words of Chief disciplinarian Raymond Bolduc after handing out the ruling on Patrice Cormier’s hit. The forward, who elbowed Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts in the head, received a suspension for the remainder of the QMJHL regular season, as well as the playoffs. The elbow sent Tam into convulsions, followed by a visit to the hospital in which he was treated for brain trauma and broken teeth.

The hit takes place at the 1:00 mark of the video.

The hit took place on January 17th during the overtime period. Patric Cormier was filmed leaving the bench and skating through center to throw the hit. As Tam followed through with a dump in from center ice, Cormier extended his elbow and connected to the head of Tam.

Tam is now reconsidering his future in hockey, but has yet to make a firm decision.

It is expected that the New Jersey Devils, who drafted Patrice Cormier 54th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, will sign the forward to a pro-level contract and demote him to their AHL affiliate. It is believed that any suspension handed out in the CHL does not need to be accomodated by the AHL. This will allow the development of Cormier to continue without potentially sacrificing his North American career.

Team Canada World Junior’s captain Patrice Cormier is under investigation by the QMJHL for his questionable hit against Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam.

The video of the hit looks as if Cormier came off the bench and delivered an elbow to Tam’s head at center ice. The hit takes place at the 1:00 mark of the video.

According to TSN.ca:

“Following the hit, Tam was convulsing on the ice before being taken off on a stretcher. Tam suffered trauma to the skull and brain and lost many teeth. He is now in stable condition in hospital and will remain under observation for at least two days. Following the game, Remparts head coach Patrick Roy filed a complaint with the Quebec Provincial Police. They collected several testimonies, and it appears that Cormier will face discipline from the QMJHL.”

Do you feel the hit is suspendable?
Has Patrick Roy taken the incident too far in including the police?

Based on the injuries to the player, should this be viewed in the same light as the Liambas incident?
